Relevant vs Irrelevant Link Text in BacklinksThe purpose of this test is to determine if relevant link text from an external website influences a page's position in the search engine results. For this test, 4 similar web pages were created, each with content based around a different set of keywords as follows:
Each of the pages has a link from a separate page on an external website (i.e. ExperimentalSEO.com). The 4 external links vary in that 2 contain relevant text (i.e. the precise keywords that feature on the pages being linked to) while 2 contain irrelevant text (i.e. "Click here"). Each of the pages was designed specifically so that neither "Click" nor "here" exist in any of the content of test pages to ensure that "Click here" in the link text was truly irrelevant. It is expected that the pages being linked to with relevant text will ultimately fare better in the SERPs (search engine results pages) than those linked to with merely "Click here". |
